1.
Should we cover the adult leader cost for scout event?
·
Result:
The decision we made last week was Troop 408 would only cover the cost of adult
leader in summer camp.
2.
Should Committee meeting changes to the second troop meeting?
·
Result:
We are going to try it out, because we would like to have more parents to
attend the meeting. While committee meeting is in progress, SM or ASMs can take tune to
supervise scout. Some parents concern about SM or ASM will miss the meeting
that should not be the problem. When there is a need for voting, SM or ASMs
will go first or their spouse can attend the meeting.
3.
How to summit a BOR
application?
· Result: Only scouts can summit the BOR application. Advancement subcommittee recommends scouts send an email, or call first and followed by an email and keep a copy for reference.
4.
What is the adult leader uniform guideline?
·
Answer: When an Adult Leader wears an uniform, it
has to be a complete uniform, including all necessary badges, such as quality
unit... etc. Please consult
with Badge and Uniform subcommittee for detail.
*** Proposition 1: Should troop 408 hire a guide for summer 50 miler
(Russian River hiking and canoeing)? - proposed by PLC
Discussion:
CC:
The summer 50-miler event is a two days
cannoning and three days hiking event.
SM: Victor will find some one knows the trail
from Troop 452 to lead the trail.
Mr. Raymond Hsu:
Senior scout should be able to lead the trail, however cannoning needs at least one BSA life guard certify to go with the event.
Mr. Patrick Lin (ASM in charge for 50 Milers):
I suggest that we are using base camp
concept. Russian River is too far away from home, and not easy for adult to
support.
Mr. Raymond Hsu:
I suggest scouts hike along the trail, move along every day.
CC: We need to do more study for the program.
Ms. Flora Le has a complete program from troop 452 regarding Russian River and
will give to SM for reference.
SM: We will take a look this program, and do
an evaluation.
Conclusion for proposition #1:
·
CC:
The ASM in charge, Mr.
Patrick Lin will talk to the senior scout in charge, JoJO & Victor, to know
more about what scouts need.
*** Proposition 2: Could we move the PLC meeting to the first Sunday night of each month? – Proposed by the PLC.
Discussion:
· Mr. Gary Liu has concern that Sunday night is the night before school day. Mr. Hsin-Min Chi said he has to work on Sunday night. The majority of parents do not have any objection about the schedule. There is no vote for this proposition.
Conclusion
for proposition #2:
·
CC:
There is no problem to move the PLC meeting to the first Sunday night of each month.
*** Proposition 3: Discussion about April outdoor event
Discussion
·
Mr. Raymond Hsu stated that April event is the event for scout to prepare May
district camporee. It would be nice for scouts to attend Japanese or CASA camporee
in April. Mr. Ben Chia said that PLC decided not to attend CASA camporee. They
would like to go to Half Moon Bay for a day trip to prepare for the May
District Camporee.
Conclusion
for proposition #3:
·
CC:
MR. Gary Liu will take
action to talk to SPL regarding what
scouts like to do for the April event.
*** Proposition 4: Special Eagle COH in Cupertino Senior
Center
Mrs. Eva Choi: The
COH will be on May 11 3:00pm to 5:00pm at South Culture Center in Sunnyvale.
Mr. Gary Liu: Is
this the troop event or Eagle Scout’s parent event? Who is going to pay
for the expense? Does our troop have budget for this type of event?
CC: Troop 408 does not have budget system
yet. Whenever troop has the budget process, we might consider to have a budget
item for eagle COH.
Mrs. Sherry Hsu: This
is a special COH to reward scouts for their achievement. Even though this is a
scout’s parents organized event, we would to like to get support from Troop
408. All expense will be pay by Eagle Scout parents, including facility,
flower, misc expense…. However, if Troop 408 can provide a congratulation cake,
that will be great.
Mr. Patrick Lin:
I think it is a good idea to show our troop’s
congratulation by supply a cake. I would suggest we make this a Troop 408
tradition.
Conclusion
for proposition #4:
·
CC:
Let’s take a vote for this suggestion. 20 out of 24 agree Troop 408 will supply
a cake for Special Eagle Scout COH. The committee approves to provide a cake for Eagle Scout COH as
congratulation. Eagle scout’s parents will arrange this special COH and may ask
help from troop.
*** Proposition 5: How many adult leader will Troop 408 pay for the summer camp?
·
CC: Should Troop only pay one whoever in charge and must
attend summer camp or should Troop pay the number of adults up to ratio (1/4 or
1/8 adult to scout ratio), subject to budget limit? We run out time for this
proposition, please think about this topic and let’s discuss at next meeting.
1)
There are 31 scouts signed up for
the summer camp as of today. Most of
them have turned in checks already. We will have total 34
free shirts. (31
+ 1 back up + 2 free adult shirts). I kept same number of
estimated
attending scouts on the free-shirt form just mailed to SFBAC at 40. So, we
still have plenty of available spaces.
1)
Pico Blanco camp site (near Big Sur) have been reserved for
September
family camp.
· BOR at 2/26/02 7:30pm, date line 2/19/02. We are going to have Chinese translation test starting from this month. The schedule will be the same as BOR.
Badge and Uniform Subcommittee:
·
Mr.
Raymond Hsu: Troop 408 got the commissioner award, the
troop will get one year rank badge free.
·
Communication
Subcommittee
·
CC: The web site has been updated and up
running. Thanks for Nai-chang Yu’s hard work.
Finance
Subcommittee
·
We are in the cash base. So far, we still have money in the
bank. See the monthly report for detail. May be we should find other source for
our finance, such as fund raising .
SM: Are we accepting new scouts?
Mr.
Patrick Lin: Does scout in the waiting list will get
first priority?
Mr. Ben Chia: I
have the waiting list. Only two are in the list.
Mrs. Sharry Hsu: According
to BSA guide line, it would be a good idea to have 24 to 36 scouts in a troop.
We should keep our scout’s member in control.
CC: We
are not going to have a recruit process this year, only referral. Please send
all the candidates information to membership subcommittee and CC.
·
Summary of a Special Report about Woodbadge
Mrs. Eva Choi talked about her personal experience about
leadership training. If you would like to know more about leadership
development, she highly recommends Woodbadge Training. The Woodbadge Training
Spring, 2002 program is specially develop for Chinese leadership camp. Mr.
Patrick Lin mentioned there would be 12 adults from our troop to attend this
event.
·
Last word from CC:
We will discuss and vote the adult leader
financial support for summer camp in the next committee meeting. Whether we
will only cover one adult leader or more adults base on the scout/adult ratio.
Please think about it. Thanks for everyone to attend the meeting.
SM Minutes by Kelvin Chin
January Highlights:
1.
Tsolee Hsu, one of the ASM
of the Dragon patrol resigned his post. Right now, the only ASM for Dragon is
Ben Chia, and I'll help him out as needed. For Tiger, there is only one
official ASM, Peng Lin. I am also doubling up as ASM for Tiger, too. It is
because Justin is the Tiger's patrol leader.
2.
All the scouts holding staff
positions, except Peter Pang and Austin Chia, are put back into patrols. Victor
Li is with the Shark, Harold Hsu is with the Dragon, Jojo Choi is with the
Moose.
3.
It is official now: Troop
Guide for the Shark is Joshua Pang, the Dragon is Jingsong, the Tiger is Jingyi,
and the Moose is Derrick.
4.
In the February PLC, it
decided that from now on, the PLCs will be held on the 1st Sunday of the month.
For April, the scouts decided to forgo this years Chinese Camporee, which we
hadn't received any information at that time, and have a one day outdoor
training for the District Camporee competition instead. Inviting/or hiring a guide
for the 50-miler event was suggested. Ben Chia asked the patrol leaders to
submit their patrol 6-month patrol meeting dates and plans to the Scoutmaster.
I also requested patrol meeting minutes and the lists of the patrol members'
jobs in their patrol. For further PLC minute details, please refer to the
Troop Web site.
5.
Peng Lin was kind enough to
attend the February District Roundtable. Please see attachment for the
information he brought back to us.
